One of the reasons we got engaged was because we decided we were ready for a family. Before the engagement, we chose to abstain. Having decided we were ready for a family, we made the decision to not take birth control.
We've lived together for a year and a half now, so we're already practically married by our home life. The marriage is to celebrate our committed relationship with friends and family (and to get the official documents). Other than that, we've pretty much already transitioned into married life.
We didn't try for a baby, but we didn't stop it either. It took about 2 months, and I suppose we just got lucky with our timing. Now we will have the chance to start a family soon after we are officially married. It will be an adventure, and we may not be completely ready. Then again, who is ever truly ready for a wedding or a baby?
